Barcelona successfully Wins by Visiting the Headquarters of Atlético de Madrid
Barcelona finally achieved another vital victory in the continuation of the Spanish League 2022/2023. Barcelona gained three points when they visited their home club Atlético Madrid in week 16.
The only goal at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano came in the 22nd minute. Ousmane Dembele is a player capable of scoring goals.
After that, Atlético had more dangerous chances against Barcelona. However, their poor result kept the narrow score alive.
Atlético had to remain in fifth position with 27 points for the defeat. For Barcelona, an additional three points strengthened their work at the top with 41 points and three points ahead of Real Madrid.
Atlético and Barcelona had problems in the first 15 minutes of the game. Barcelona, who feel comfortable with the ball, finds it difficult to get into the penalty area, while Atlético finds it challenging to control the ball and move to the center of the field.
Barcelona finally opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Gavi provided a visionary pass for Ousmane Dembele to penetrate Atlético dense defense.
Dembélé, who received the pass, calmly led it into the penalty area. He survived interference from two opposing players and beat the opposing goalie.
After that goal, Atlético became a team that dominated. At least three chances could be scored, both by José Giménez, Marcos Llorente, and the most dangerous by Antoine Griezmann.
Unfortunately, Griezman attempt in the 42nd minute was thwarted by goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. His shot only resulted in a corner kick, as well as being Atlético's last dangerous attack.
Atlético took the initiative to gain control of the match early in the second half. They try to keep the visitors as long as possible, so they don't have the ball. This seemed to work until the 60th-minute mark.
Griezmann was almost emotional again with Barcelona goal in the 54th minute. The French player's kick still bounced over the crossbar.
Atlético threatened again with a long shot from Geoffrey Kondogbia on 66'. The hard kick was stopped by Ter Stegen, but he failed to master it perfectly. Luckily, he immediately secured the regurgitated ball before another Atlético player hit him.
Surprisingly, Barcelona scored a goal in the 72nd minute of chaos in front of the plan. However, the referee canceled a goal by Ferran Torres because he was already in an offside position.
Things heated up late in the game. The main referee José Montero issued two red cards, each for Stefan Savic (Atlético) and Ferran Torres (Barcelona) in the 90+2 minute.
Two minutes later, Griezmann returned with a golden opportunity for Atlético. He was about to score a goal if Ter Stegen had not quickly deflected his shot from very close range.
