Coppa Italia AC Milan vs Torino: Milan eliminated 10 Torino players

AC Milan, dominant for nearly 120 minutes, had to accept bitter results. Milan lost 0-1 to Torino at the San Siro in the last 16 of the 2022/2023 Coppa Italia.

Torino only goal was scored in the 111th minute. The plan was created through a counter-attack scheme when the Milan players were preoccupied with attacking. Michel Ndary Adopo successfully maximised the mature bait from Brian Brayeye.

Before that goal, Torino could only last the entire game. The visitors defended even more when Koffi Djidji received a second yellow card in the 70th minute.

With this result, Torino set foot in the quarter-finals. They will wait for the winner between Fiorentina and Sampdoria.

First Round

Milan, who played in front of their supporters, had quite a hard time building attacks. The game is more often focused on the midfield area.

Torino, who could offset Milan possession of the ball, created the first opportunity. Sasa Lukic was only misplaced in the 12th minute. His shot was towards the middle and was easily anticipated by goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu.

Milan first chance appeared in the 25th minute. I was starting from a cross from Sergino Dest, which was hit by an opposing player and was saved by goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.

The edge resulted in a corner kick. Charles de Ketelaere successfully headed the ball, but the ball only went sideways.

De Ketelaere again provided a threat to the Torino goal. His shot in the 44th minute would almost found the visitors' goal if Vanja didn't react quickly.

Second Round

Milan started the second half with a different strategy. The Rossoneri are now more and more threatening with long-range shots.

Tommaso Pobega (48') had the first shot but was too weak to make it easily saved by Vanja. Then it was Sandro Tonali's turn (55') which hit the bar.

Milan again provided a threat in the 68th minute. Junior Messias' volley, which had not been in for a long time, was so convincing, but his shot went over the edge.

Torino, who played defensively and often relied on physicality to stop Milan players, finally had to accept the consequences. Torino centre-back Koffi Djidji received a second yellow card and had to go off in the 70th minute.

VAR checked for potential handball by Torino in the 79th minute. After checking, it turned out that there was no indication of a handball.

Torino, who lost one player in the last 20 minutes, played tighter. They aim to take this unequal match to a penalty shoot-out.

Extra Time

Milan had several opportunities in the first half. Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud took turns threatening the Torino goal, filled with all the players.

Vanja composure in the face of every shot on target and the tight organisation of the Torino defence were the keys to dampening any Milan attacks in the first 15 minutes.

Milan, who constantly attacked, needed more time to be ready when facing Torino's counterattack. In one attack, Torino successfully broke into the host's goal.

Brian Brayeye provided a low cross at the far post, which Michel Ndary Adopo quickly met. These two players are players who have just entered the extra round.
