Manchester City vs Tottenham: The Citizens Comeback With a Score of 4-2

Manchester City won an important victory in the 2022/2023 Premier League continuation. In the postponed match of week 7, Man City won 4-2 over Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium. Tottenham initially had a two-goal lead. Each by Dejan Kulusevski (44') and Emerson Royal (45'+2).

Man City then responded by immediately buying up four goals. Julian Alvarez (51') and Erling Haaland (53') scored one goal each; then two other goals were contributed by Riyad Mahrez (63'. 90'+1).

This victory recorded the total points collected by Man City to 42, or just five points away from Arsenal at the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Tottenham is increasingly stuck in fifth position with 33 points, five points behind Newcastle too.

First Round

From the start, Man City managed to control the game. Playing in front of his supporters gave Erling Haaland et al. a little encouragement.

Unfortunately, Haaland missed several opportunities to break the deadlock. This omission was punished, with Man City falling behind first.

Tottenham high-pressing resulted in a goal in the 44th minute. Rodrigo Bentancur managed to win the ball from Rodri control. He then provided a pass for Dejan Kulusevski, who finished with a shot that Ederson failed to reach.

Tottenham successfully doubled their lead in the 45+2 minute. Starting from Harry Kane hard kick, which Ederson countered, the gag ball fell right at Emerson Royal's feet to score a goal.

Second Round

Man City cleared quickly in the second half. Four successful goals were created within 45 minutes.

Man City's series of counter goals started in the 51st minute. Julian Alvarez grabbed a horizontal cross from Riyad Mahrez, which Jack Grealish failed to reach.

Mahrez was again a contributor to Man City second goal, to be precise, in the 53rd minute. This time, his header resulted in an assist for Haaland goal.

Mahrez finally scored for himself in the 63rd minute. His action disrupted the Tottenham defence, which Ivan Perisic guarded. After winning the duel, Mahrez fired another shot which Lloris failed to reach again.

Man City goal feast was closed by Mahrez when the game entered the 90+1 minute. Clement Lenglet made a mistake in anticipating when he was about to clear the ball, so Mahrez easily beat Lloris again.
